Finding the Right Skid Steer for You
When choosing a skid steer there are many considerations and features that should be kept in mind. Before visiting a local dealer, one should ask themselves a series of questions to narrow down their choices such as:
- What jobs will I be using the bobcat/skid steer for and will I need to do more "heavy duty" jobs in the future?
- What attachments, features, and packages are available on the various models? Which ones meet my needs and which can I live without?
- Will buying a cheaper skid steer impact my long term labor costs....will features such as heating and "creature comforts" improve productivity for my business or are they unnecessary expenses?
- Will a mini skid steer do the job, instead of a full size one? Do you have sufficient storage space for the tractor?
- What are the estimated maintenance costs for the particular model(s) you may be considering?
- What kind of warranties or guarantees are made available from the dealer for the particular model(s)?
- What is the resale value like of the particular model(s) you may be considering?
In addition, you will want to consider the various tire options that are available. If you own a landscaping or construction business you may want to consider foam filled tires, which will not deflate as a result of screws, nails, and other sharp objects commonly found on a construction site. And, as always, make sure to take the skid steer for a test drive before making a final decision and buy from a reputable dealer.
